Bram Hulme-Golding is a 20 year old oil painter from the South West of England. He completed his Foundation at Arts University Plymouth and is now studying for his Fine Art BA at Goldsmiths University of London. This is also where he first came across artists such as Cecily Brown, De Kooning and Oscar Murillo who's books are often in his studio. Within his work he aims to explore subjects beyond their external appearance. He wants to portray the essence of phenomena. He aims to create paintings that are organic, alive and that have a soul. “I don’t want to depict a single scene or subject I want to create potentialities”.
For Bram, this way of working feels reflective of a 21st Century existence. “We are rarely existing solely in the real world, we exist virtually, in our thoughts and in the media we consume." I want this fragmented experience of consciousness to come across in my work. Bram works with a diverse range of reference imagery, taken from memories, scenes from television and films, as well as images from newspapers. But the references he keeps coming back to and that keep seeping into his work are that of art-history, politics and religion; these are subjects which he’s deeply interested in.
